Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Aare Sanni Shittu, has resigned.

ANLCA has recently been engulfed in a leadership tussle tilted towards tribal war differences.

Speaking with nigeriamaritime360@gmail.com on Monday, Aare Shittu said his decision to resign from the board was borne out of his love for the association and the resolve to ensure that peace reign within the association.

The ANLCA board was recently factionalised when two of its members, Chief Henry Njoku, who has been chairman of the board for 10 years, allegedly refused to yield the floor for a newly elected chairman, Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha.

Shittu was a strong ally of Henry Njokwu, even as he stayed from voting on the recent election which reportedly produced Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha.

He, however, stated on Monday that his resignation was to create peace and a way forward for the association.

Shittu was a strong member of the Oodua Maritime forum, a pressure group within ANLCA which has been advocating that a Yoruba man must emerge as Chairman of the BOT.

He therefore denied that there was pressure on him from certain quarters to resign, saying that “it’s just that anything that will bring peace into the association is what I stand for, and I believe that there is nothing too big to sacrifice in order for the association to work.

“I turned in my resignation two days ago.”

When our correspondent prodded if he was joining the other camp of Taiwo Mustapha, Shittu replied that “I am neither for both sides other than for peace to reign, and I am sure this would trigger off other reactions, as ANLCA is a very big organization and a cat with nine lives.”

In an earlier message apparently posted on the WhatsApp group platform of ANLCA, Shittu had said that

“Just for d(sic) records, in unison lies strength, so decreed Almighty God, but some people in their own selfish myopic delusion wants to destroy ANLCA, in view of d foregoing to demonstrate that nothing is too big to give life back to our great association, l hereby denounce my post of Vice Chairman (BOT) and l hope and believe soonest others of like minds will follow suit.

“l’m sure by this honest submission, every curious mind would want to know who these individuals are? In confidence, ask people of like minds in persons of my humble self, Prince Taiwo Oyeniyi and Alhaji Mustapha Taiwo.”
