Amaechi to inspect connection of standard gauge to Apapa Port

The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on Friday disclosed that he will be inspecting the Apapa port end of the Lagos – Ibadan standard gauge rail project on Saturday (today).

Amaechi disclosed this while addressing transport journalists on Friday in Kila town, Ogun State.

The Minister also disclosed that inspection of the Apapa port and it’s connection to the standard guage rail will commence on Saturday.

According to him, “We will be visiting the ports tomorrow to address some of the issues we have there. It’s imperative that the Apapa Ports must be connected to the standard guage rail,” the Honourable Minister of Transportation assured

However, the minister also disclosed that the  123km Lagos-Ibadan standard guage track, which laying gulped $1.6bn has finally been completed, as it touches Kila village, a settlement on the outskirt of Ibadan, Oyo State. It was however not known, if the Ibadan people would be going to Kila to board it, or wait till gets to Dugbe, the ancient city’s rail arena.

Amaechi explained that the project has improved in terms of completion rate and should be in Ibadan Oyo State in a matter of weeks.

In his words “We are already in Ibadan outskirts. The track laying is now in Kila, a town on the outskirts of Ibadan. In less than a month now, we should be in Ibadan.”
