News Agbakoba charges maritime workers, others to unite for 2019 elections By maritimemag May 2, 2018 ShareTweet 0 Human Rights activist and maritime lawyer, Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has called on maritime and entire Nigerian workers to shun division in the forthcoming national elections so that the workers can enjoy the dividends of democracy. The co-founder of National Intervention Movement, (NIM) Mr Olisa Agbakoba, gave the charge on Monday at the Pre-May Day lecture held by the United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, under the theme; Quest for a Vibrant Democracy, 2019 in Focus’. He said that the labour movement cannot afford to be apolitical in the forthcoming 2019 general elections. Agbakoba called on labour movements to unite in ensuring that the Nigerian masses are put in a position to enjoy dividends of democracy. He said that instead of distancing themselves from the election, the organised labour should join force with other Nigerians for a good outcome in the 2019 elections. Speaking further, Agbakoba said the labour movement should avoid the mistake of the past of remaining aloof while election of those who will lead the country was being held. “Labour movement is important in any country. I will advise you to take charge of democratic space and make it vibrant. We cannot have a divided labour movement, so you must strategize. “The strategy you should adopt as 2019 election is coming, is for you to be on the side of the people. You can take power if you have the numbers. You must motivate people. You must collaborate with groups that have the same vision with you. You need to have strong affiliates. That is, for betterment of Nigerians,” he advised. © 2018, maritimemag. All rights reserved.
