ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO MARITIME ACADEMY, ORON.

Candidates seeking admission into any programme of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria must have a functional and accessible electronic mail address (E-mail) and Mobile number.
A. National Diploma Programme (ND)

The Admission process into National Diploma programme of the Academy is through Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board (JAMB)/Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) only.
The duration of ND programme is two (2) years, divided into four (4) semesters
Screening/Aptitude Test:

a. Candidates are subjected to Screening Exercise/Aptitude Test which may be changed from time to time as decided by the Management/Regulatory Authority.
b. Candidates must pass Medical Examination and Physical Fitness before he/she can be considered for admission.

Entry Requirements
1. Nautical science
Five (5) credit passes at O/Level (WASC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB etc) not more than two (2) sittings.
Subjects Required
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Physics
– Geography
– And any other Science subjects etc

UTME/JAMB Subject Combination
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Physics
– Geography

2. Marine Engineering

Five (5) credit passes at O/Level (WASC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB, etc.) in not more than two (2) sittings.
Subjects Required
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Physics
– Chemistry
– Technical Drawing or Any other related Science subject

UTME/JAMB Subject Combination
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Physics
– Chemistry

3. Electrical/Electronics

Five (5) credit passes at O/Level (WASC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB etc) in not more than two (2) sittings
Subjects Required
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Physics
– Chemistry
– Any other related Science subject

UTME/JAMB Subject Combination
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Physics
– Chemistry

4. Maritime Transport and Business Studies
Five (5) credit passes at O/Level (WASC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB etc) in not more than two (2) sittings
Subjects Required
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Economics
– Geography
– Any other from Commerce, Government, Principles of Account, Business Management etc

UTME/JAMB Subject Combination
– English Language
– Mathematics
– Economics
– Geography

Age Limit
(Serial No. 1 – 3 under the Entry Requirements) should not be more than 21 years old at the time of admission and shall be single and remain single throughout the duration of the programme.
(Serial No. 4) should not be more than 25 years old at the time of admission and shall be single and remain single throughout the duration of the programme.

B. Higher National Diploma Programme (HND)
The duration of HND programmes is two (2) years, divided into four (4) semesters
The following programmes are on offer
– Nautical Science
– Marine Engineering
– Maritime Transport and Business Management

Entry Requirements
i. Nautical Science
1. Must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with at least FIVE CREDIT passes in subjects which must include
– Mathematics
– English Language,
– Physics
– Geography,
– and any other related Science subjects obtained in NOT MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS

2. Must possess a National Diploma in Nautical Science with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other accredited institution listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Also, candidates must have JAMB Registration number.

3. Possess a JAMB Registration number.

4. Must have completed a minimum of one year post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of one year cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

5. Candidates with PASS at National Diploma level from Maritime Academy of Nigeria must have completed a minimum of two years Post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of two years cognate work experience in a relevant organisation.

ii.Marine Engineering
1. Must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with at least FIVE CREDIT passes in subjects which must include
– Mathematics
– English Language,
– Physics,
– Chemistry,
– Technical Drawing and/or any other related Science subjects obtained in NOT MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS

2. Must possess a National Diploma in Marine Engineering with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other accredited institution listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

3. Must possess a JAMB Registration number.

4. Must have completed a minimum of one year post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of one year cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

5. Candidates with PASS at National Diploma level from Maritime Academy of Nigeria must have completed a minimum of two years Post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of two years cognate work experience in a relevant organisation.

iii. Maritime Transport and Business Management
1. Must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with at least FIVE CREDIT passes in subjects which must include
– Mathematics,
– English Language,
– Economics,
– Geography,
– and any of Commerce, Government, Financial Accounting and Business Management,
obtained in NOT MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS.

2. Must possess a National Diploma in Maritime Transport and Business Studies with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other accredited institution listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

3. Must possess a JAMB Registration number.

4. Must have completed a minimum of one year post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or acquired a minimum of one year cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

5. Candidates with PASS at National Diploma level from Maritime Academy of Nigeria must have completed a minimum of two years post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or acquired a minimum of two years cognate work experience in a relevant organisation.
