The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP, Director-General Julie Okah-Donli, stated this at a briefing in Abuja. The DG noted that this made a total of 359 convictions for human trafficking crimes secured by the agency since inception. Okah-Donli said plan was ongoing to also deploy NAPTIP intelligence officers to Internally Displaced Persons’ camps nationwide to arrest suspected traffickers. NAPTIP according to her, had trained the “first set of 97 officers from the Basic Intelligence and Security Course of the State Service in Kaduna State,” some of who would be in the deployment to IDPs camps. The DG said over 13,000 victims had passed through the NAPTIP shelters and were given psycho-social support, skills and education.
