As it seeks to streamline the trade processes around container shipping Maersk is taking customs clearance online – initially in the seven European countries of Germany, France, Denmark, The Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom and Spain. The aim of the online system is to expedite customs clearance and remove delays which are costly both in time and money. “This new one-stop-shop allows us to timely and efficiently handle export and import declarations for our customers. The solution provides downstream benefits of full governance and compliance, eliminates the need to provide a quote as pricing is displayed online, saving three to five minutes per quote,” said Vincent Clerc, cco of AP Moller – Maersk. The system also reduces the number of intermediaries customers deal with for customs clearance to a single party. Maersk has been trialing the Ocean and Customs Clearance shipping management platform in Germany for almost two years. Now fully rolling out the system in seven European countries, including Germany, Maersk aims to implement it worldwide by the end of the year. The system is offer across all Maersk brands.
