Tayo Oladipupo | Sesame seeds, Cashew nuts and cigarettes are among the items that top the export chart in Tin Can Island Customs export goods in 2018. Sesame seed which recorded 11,753.60 tonnes making it the third highest exported item in 2017, leads the pack in 2018 while Cocoa beans that led the chart in the previous year with 15,389.10, recorded 29,850.58 tonnes in 2018, coming behind Sesame seed and Cashew nuts. This is contained in the Export Seat commodities chart made available to this medium by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Uche Ejesieme, yesterday. According to the information, the Service has recorded twenty six percent higher export volume as at October, 2018 than the entire exported goods in the previous year. The chart stated that the command recorded a grand total of 231, 505.96 tonnes at the end of October this year compared to183, and 418.2 tonnes in the whole of 2017. While Cocoa beans had the highest tonnage of 15, 389.10 tonnes in 2017, Sesame seed recorded the highest export in 2018 with 61, 601.20 tonnes. Among the items that recorded high export volume in 2018 include Cashew Nuts with 31, 010.20 tonnes; Cocoa beans with 29,850.58, Processed rubber with 17,695.69, Charcoal with 7,025,50. Others are: Cigarettes 6,641.40;, Cocoa butter, 6,188.60 tonnes among other items. According to the information, the month of September recorded the highest tonnage of export with 27473 tonnes followed by June with 25,036 tonnes of export cargoes.
