12,051 bags of rice for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

12,051 bags of rice have been released for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North east part of the country courtesy of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Command.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Selchang Taupyen, announced this in Badagry, Lagos State.

Taupyen said that other items given to the IDPs were: vegetable oil, bales of used clothes and shoes, cartons of soap, hand bags and tin tomatoes in line with the Presidential directive.

The Command spokesperson said, the seized goods were handed over to the IDPs camps through the Nigerian Army.

“The gesture will go a long way to ameliorate the suffering of the displaced persons and help in supporting the current operations against Boko Haram.

“The command is committed in supporting other agencies in its efforts at improving the security of the country,’’ the command’s spokesman said in a statement.

According to Taupyen, the Area Controller, Mr Aliyu Mohammed, urged the public to adhere to the Federal Government’s policies and desist from smuggling.

“The command will keep on enforcing the policies of government and ensure that our borders are safe by suppressing and eradicating smuggling.

“Desist from smuggling or face the full wrath of the law,’’ he warned.
