Operatives at the Zone 2 Police Command have arrested two men suspected to be sea robbers in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State.

The men, Sunday Sama, 25, and Olorunjuwonlo Elebiju, 32, were said to have been spotted on Monday, December 3, 2018, at 8.30pm trying to hide.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Lawal Shehu, said in Lagos on Tuesday that a team of Zonal Intervention Squad operatives was asked to track down the two men.

He added that the operatives eventually arrested the suspected sea robbers and recovered three AK-47, one AK-49 and one G3 rifle as well as 50 rounds of live ammunition from them.

He stated, “On December 3, 2018, at 8.30pm, information was received that some unscrupulous elements were noticed around the Ajegunle area of Lagos State taking precautions to conceal their presence and suspected to be cultists.

“A team of the ZIS operatives was detailed to track them at 9.30pm; two suspects identified as Sunday Sama and Olorunjuwonlo Elebiju were arrested with three AK-47, one AK-49 and one G3 rifle, including 50 rounds of live ammunition.”

According to him, an investigation is in progress and that efforts were on to arrest other fleeing suspects.

He said the suspects would be charged to court soon.

The AIG also assured Lagos and Ogun States’ residents that the command would flush out criminal elements wherever they might be hiding so that innocent Nigerians could have peace during the Christmas and New Year festivities, as well as free and fair elections early next year.

Shehu added that the command would soon raid the homes of herbalists suspected to be involved in ritual killings in the zone to prevent further incidents
