14 Marine Engineering and six nautical science graduates from maritime institutions have been engaged by Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to carry out their sea time training onboard international vessels.

The 20 young Nigerian Maritime graduates are beneficiaries of the practical scholarship scheme of the Board.

The beneficiaries were some of the students who graduated from maritime training institutions under the aegis of Nigeria Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP).

Recall that the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) had sponsored some students to study maritime related courses in Egypt, Philippines and other countries but are yet to have the mandatory sea time training that will quality them for employment as seamen.

Out of the 20 selected beneficiaries, 14 of them were Marine Engineering graduates while 6 others who read nautical science will be serving as deck officers.

Some of the beneficiaries said they were leaving Nigeria this weekend to join their assigned ships for sailing in the United Arab Emirate.

The sea time is part of the mandatory intern requirements for trainees and cadets of maritime training institutions as eligibility criteria for employment onboard ships on international waters.
