By maritimemag April 9, 2020 ShareTweet 0 Chinazor Megbolu It was a black Wednesday as no fewer than 8 persons lost their lives in a multiple accident caused by 6 petrol tankers and a car at Oloru-Kanbi in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State. Reports have it that the accident occurred when the tankers, heading to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot at Oke-Oyi in Ilorin had a head-on collision with 3 others returning from the depot. The 3 tankers, one of which was loaded with Diesel had a head-on collision with the other 3 coming from Jenna also in same Moro local government area of the state. A private car was also damaged in the accident. A combined team of officers and men from the fire service, Police and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were seen trying to put out the fire from the scene of the accident. The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Alhaji Abdulwaheed lyanda-Yakub explained that 12 people died in the multiple accidents. He added that most of the dead persons were tanker drivers. According to him; “2 other victims were on the danger list receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UlTH). lyanda-Yakub stated that the remains of the dead have been deposited at the morgue of the hospital. Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara, Mr. Jonathan Owoade disclosed that only 8 persons died in the multiple accidents. © 2020, maritimemag.
