After staying in the saddle for one year, members of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) have rated their President, Hon Tony Iju Nwabunike low on performance and poor leadership style, which they feared is leading to gradual capitulation of the association.

Nigeriamaritime360.com recalls that Tony Iju and his executives came into power in March 2018. Since their assumption of office, the association has been riddled with crisis, mostly from power tussle among members of the association’s Board of Trustees (BOT)

Speaking with our correspondent, a frontline member of ANLCA, Francis Omotosho lamented that ANLCA in the last one year had witnessed a serious storm; which if not properly managed will eventually sink the spirit of unity amongst its members.

Omotosho said “There is only one instrument for lasting and sustainable resolution to weather this storm and that is the spirit of forgiveness”

“Once those in the centre stage of the storm can imbibe the spirit of forgiving each other, and let the general interest of the association override their personal interests and ego and turn down the spirit of winner takes it all, then there will be peace and calmness and as such the association can move forward”

“Anything short of this can not bring lasting solution to the unnecessary crisis that is lingering amongst the members of the great association”

Another member of the association at Apapa Chapter, Mr.Frank Aliakor said that ANLCA has not fared well under Tony Iju Nwabunike in the past one year.

He said the association has been characterised with a lot of problems, ranging from court cases, insubordination, balkanisation of the association due to lack of cohesion, understanding and respect to one and another.

He also said that political inclination of the president, has caused some divided attention in handling the affairs of the association.

“You cannot jump across the river with two legs. So the association has not faired well, but if he can bring the warring groups together and make peace all will go well” he said

Recall that Tony Iju had contested for the House of Representatives in Anambra State but he lost the elections.

Our correspondent gathered that since he lost the elections, he is yet to resume back into office at the ANLCA National Secretariat in Festac Town, Lagos.
